Residents Taking the Reins

A new Facebook group caught my attention. Lynn Playground Cleanup was founded this month. According to a post on the group’s wall:

I will be at the little park on Sheridan Street this Saturday (6/12) doing what I can to clean up. Please join me. I will be there around 10am. Even if you cannot come help clean, maybe you can help by donating something to the cause. We will need trash bags, brooms, rakes, gloves, bottled water.

Also, tomorrow, the East Lynn Community Association and Friends of Lynn and Nahant Beach are hosting a Clean Sweep to the Sea event, starting at 9:30 in front of City Hall. Volunteers will pick up litter and trash along several routes in downtown and on the beach. They converge on Red Rock park for food and music by 2 new Lynn bands at noon. For more information, click here. It’s never too late to sign up.

The Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development are throwing a Trash Bash on Lafayette St. from 9 AM to 1PM. This is one in a series of ongoing efforts to stabilize this and other neighborhoods.

I spoke with resident of Lynn Heidi Maguire this morning, who lives near Kiley Park. She is asking for volunteers to help resurface and paint the park’s tennis court on Sanderson Ave. tomorrow morning at 9AM. Heidi has also led several cleanups of that park. To tell the truth, I drove by a few weeks ago, and it looked remarkably clean compared to last year. You may contact Heidi at 781-405-4976.

So get in on the grassroots action and help out at one of these cleanups. There’s plenty of opportunity to show your pride in Lynn!
