Kevin Spacey Talks Arts Funding (BroadwayWorld.com).

I saw this interview on Hardball the other day, and it reminded me of the importance of the arts in the life and business of a city. The arts usher in a vitality and revenue that supports other business ventures, like restaurants. Consider what Broadway does for New York City.  Now imagine what downtown Lynn can do (is doing) for the city.

Actor Tim Robbins also visited Washington to lobby for sustaining the National Endowment of the Arts. In the New York Times, he remembered a $50 grant the NEA gave him when he was 17 to perform theatre in poor communities. Robbins said, “Within 10 years that $50 turned into hundreds and thousands of dollars in taxes that I’ve paid to the government. It’s not a bad return on an investment of $50.”
