Uptown Safari

Downtown isn’t the only place to experience Lynn’s artistic side. Take a journey uptown and stalk the wild photography of Lynn resident Mary Robbins at the Safari Gallery, located inside I Did It Myself custom framing shop on 3 Lewis Street. You will be so amazed by Mary’s close-up images that you may want to take one home to hang in your apartment.

Mary’s website will give you a preview of what expect, but you will see so much more if you visit the gallery. Some of her photos are grouped together in one frame and tell a story. At the grand opening on August 13th, I had the pleasure of listening to Mary talk about the series of 4 photos showing a monkey mother holding her mischievous baby while perched high in a tree. As Mary describes it, “the youngster almost got away, and in the final photo the mother looked at me as if to say, ‘See what I have to put up with.'”

Mary’s photos are the result of many trips to Africa over the years to Sub-Saharan countries, including Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Tanzania. She first caught the bug attending a conference in Johannesburg. She conveys a sense of each animal’s presence and the cognitive powers apparent in their gaze.

So visit Safari Gallery on 3 Lewis Street, and I guarantee you will be impressed!
